Puppet wars.

Below are some rough pictures of the puppet wars models.

They are based on the characters from Wyrds Malifaux game.

I mass painted 40 minis so that I could play with painted models making it easier for my daughter to know which model was which. The colour schemes are based on the card art work.

Chaos sorcerer

A new edition to the army. This gives me 3 wizards on foot now for playing storm of magic games.

Disc rider of Tzeentch

A mate of mine had some bits left over from his Empire chariot (luminark/hurraculumn).

He kindly donated them to me and I decided that they would make a nice alternate disc for a sorcerer or other character from my warriors of chaos army to ride.

Here are a few work in progress shots.

I have mounted it on a 50 by 50 mm base coming off the side of a broken monument.

My first display base

This is my first go at a single mini display base.

It's not 100% finished but what is left to do is very minor (flowers).

This is for an Avatars of War mini of a female light mage (high elf).

Mounted on a coffe jar lid, miliput, bark, cork, flock and army painter ivy.

Also here is a pic of the finished executioner model with all the gaps green stuffed and repainted and also the tatoo tidied up.

Sorry for the .......................

I would like to say sorry for the lack of content lately.

My boss has been removed from post at work and I have had to take on a lot of extra tasks which in turn has taken up a lot of my time.

I will make some more effort to get some of the stuff I have been working on up on the blog as soon as possible.

Warriors of Chaos Vs Dark Elves

Game three:.......... :P

Round three saw us drawn against Team Dragon. As the name suggests these guys each had an elf army with a dragon and the 4th had demons with a greater demon of tzeentch (kind of dragony). I got paired up with;

Callum Drury

Master; Dark Pegasus; Battle Standard Bearer; Soulrender, Pendant of Khaeleth, Heavy Armour, Sea Dragon Cloak, Shield, 215

Master; Dark Pegasus; Armour of Eternal Servitude, Dragonbane Gem, Lance, Shield, Sea Dragon Cloak, 180

The shades went into a building left of centre and I ignored them through the game. They did very little where they were. On the right flank Callum’s knights, a master and dragon did a number on my knights. On the left my marauder horse took out his dark riders. In the centre one of my blocks took a charge from a master and killed him (more on this later).

Magic got the hydra and my war shrine held his remaining knights and master. Callum could have ran his dragon and hid for the win but stayed to fight. One of my blocks hit the dragon, beat it in combat and ran it down.

When we tallied up the points it was a draw (114pts in my favour). It was a great game and Callum is a fun guy to game against. He never gloated when the dice were going his way and never got grumpy when they didn’t. This was the main reason that I did not ask for the score to be changed to take account that one of my unit champions had killed his master BSB in a challenge and should have got +50pts for an underdog kill giving me an 11-9 win. Callum could have easily won by running his dragon lord away but didn’t so as to have a better game. He and his team got our vote for best sports.

Ben’s 7 small drops got him the choice to place his combat units opposite my units that would be most beneficial to him. This is where Ben’s experience put him above me in the skill level. It worked out that his blood letters would face off against my khorne unit and his plagues would be against my tzeentch unit. I would have preferred it to be the other way around.

As the game played out my knights got tuck into his fat guy unclean one and got him down to 1 or 2 wounds before they got hit in the flank by his letters when they had held and then beasted up my khorne unit.
My tzeentch unit did a number on the plague bearers but this took a long time and was not enough to help me in the end. Ben’s chaff out chaffed mine.

I think in this game I played too aggressively and should have deployed further back and used a turn or 2 to get better positions before the combat started. 20 – 0 to Ben.

Warriors of Chaos Vs Lizardmen

The draw for the first game had been posted a few days earlier, we had got team tough and fluffy. The match up did not go to plan and I got the following;

3 terradons 90

2 salamanders 150

Tim is a very thoughtfull player and we only just completed 5 turns in 3 hours. This thoughtfulness served him well as I kept rushing my turns and made some silly mistakes.

Early in the game I allowed my Lv4 to get too close to his death magic and paid the price (and forgot my healing potion). he used his small skink units well and kept me at bay while causing me some casualties. I learned that a 2+ flaming ward save skar vet can hold up a unit of warriors with flaming banner for quite some time.

Posted Image

One of my units was doing a number on his skrox unit then I made a fatal error of putting my warshrine in a position that allowed a big unit to get into the combat to help out the skrox.

I got 20-0'd and it was pretty much my own fault. We all agreed that this was a bad match up but my own decision to go forward too soon and rush my turns gave him an easy win that should have been more like a minor win.

Hohum, never mind, next game to follow soon.

Warriors of chaos V's Empire

The night before the Polish sausage tournament Dave O and I had a practise game against each other. Dave was rocking his fantastic Empire army.

Dave set up his army with his inf blocks holding the centre of his line with his artillery to his right.

The early part of the game saw my magic whittling his units and his big guns whittling away at my units.

"The warriors prepare to advance"

I had nothing in my army that could take his steam tank and decided to see what the war shrine could do with its 3+ ward save. This proved to be pretty good and kept the tank stuck in combat from turn 2 for the rest of the game.

"Dave sends the detachments to their doom"

Dave played very well and was looking to get a win. The last few turns of the game saw some luck on my part with one example being 5 marauder horsemen charging a big unit in the rear and breaking them (even with a re role). This created some rules questions as their flee (when they failed to rally) then blocked a charge at the other side of the battle after they had bounced through some units.

In the end it was a draw and very very enjoyable game. I think Dave's level of playing skill is above mine and it was some luck that gave the draw as Dave outplayed me.

A great opponent and would urge anyone to have a game with Dave Olorenshaw and his splendid Empire army. He won the best army trophy at this event against quite a few other impressive armies.

Well done Dave.

Warriors of Chaos, Icons of the gods

Something that I have been meaning to do for a while was to make some kind of visual item that makes what mark a unit has in my Warriors army more obvious.

Because I want to keep a fixed colour scheme throught the army I need to steer away from the common practice of painting the units with colours that represent which chaos god they follow. This can in turn make it easier to swap marks on the units as I wish between games to try different things.

My first thought was to make models carrying an icon but decided that this would use p lots of figure that could often end up left in the case/shelf when that particular mark was not being used.

I finaly decided to make a 4 base unit filler that depicted a particular chaos god that could be placed in the unit giving a very easy to see visual que as to what that unit was marked with.

I used a 50mm base ( equals 4 x 25mm bases) with a pillar from the arcane ruins set. To this I added some bits from my bits box and then gave tham a quick splash of colour.

The first 2 that I have done are for Khorne (red) and Tzeentch (blue/green). Next will be Nurgle and Slaanesh.

Home made Treekin

Here are some pics of some home made Treekin that I did a while back.

I used some hard board for the bases, twigs, bits from the dryad spru, miliput, dried herbs on the base, clump folage, slate and some flock for moss.

Graveyard terrain

I have got myself 3 boxes of the Garden of Morr from GW. The plan for these sets is to make enough graveyard scenery to cover a 3ft by 3ft area of a gaming table. I will keep the elements of the sets individual so as to allow for ease of storeage and also setting up the table to suit the game that is to be played.

The set includes 4 large sprues that are filled with some very detailed parts in a hard plastic. On inspection there is no flash, miss molds and any mold lines are minor.

First is 1 x base set.

Next is a wall/fence set.

Then there is 2 sets of the tombs
The kit cleans up and goes together very well. There is quite a lot of skulls as is common with GW scenery but I quite like this. There are some fantastic bits of detailing when you look closer that includes vines and flowers creeping up walls, extra grave stones and even a crow.

This is just one box put together so far. Sorry about the picture quality. I will update when I have got some paint on them and they are ready for the table.
